The WTSM-A safety monitoring system installed by Weite and Southeast Shipyard in this cooperation is equipped with angle sensors, anemometers, and load indicators to the pedestal crane in accordance with the requirements of the national standard. A camera is installed on the top of the arm and each of the four outriggers.

Since this pedestal crane is a full-swing type portal crane, the support point and pivot point of the slewing mechanism are different from the conventional portal crane, which causes great difficulty in transmitting the video signal and sensor signal of the cart to the operator's cab.

For the stability of each signal transmission, after field technicians' investigation and test, the solution of using bridge transmission was finally selected.
Central slip ring bridge
Since the lowest point of the turning point of the pedestal crane reaches the upper plane of the outrigger, if the net bridge is installed on the plane of the outrigger, when the turning mechanism rotates 180 degrees, the net bridge of the turning mechanism will be blocked by the steel structure of the turning mechanism, causing the cab signal to be interrupted. The field experiment finally decided to install the launching bridge of the cart and the receiving bridge of the operator's cab at the central slip ring, which smoothly solved the signal transmission problem. After the installation of the monitoring system, the test signals were all normal and there was no jam.
After installation and commissioning, the sensor data is accurate and the safety control and alarm functions are normal. It can accurately control the upper and lower limit range of the boom, the rated weight of the boom with different ranges, and the upper and lower limit positions of the cart and the height of the main hook. The limit position adds an extremely important protective barrier for the safe operation of the crane.
